The biggest mistake I made in my health

Written by Lindsey Kaszuba

Has this ever happened to you?

- you set a goal to eat healthier
- you know this is what you’ve been needing to feel better
- you’re excited and nervous to make this change
- you even share it with your friends for some accountability

And then…

The overwhelm sets in. Self-doubts arise. Anxiety creeps back in. The kids get sick. You go on vacation. Work gets busy. You start to think maybe it’s just not the right time to prioritize your health. And voila, the loop continues. You start, and you stop…again.

You’re back where you started. Not feeling good in your body, knowing you need to do something, but feeling overwhelmed and defeated because you’ve once again tried and failed.

I’ve got a secret to tell you - that was me.

I’ve always been passionate about health & wellness, but up until 5 years ago it was for all the wrong reasons. I wanted to look a certain way, I wanted to weigh a specific number on the scale, and I wanted to fit the mold of who I thought was supposed to be. I put SO much of my worth on appearance and very little on how I felt internally.

Just writing that makes me cringe, but it’s true. It was a never-ending cycle of starting a new diet or a new workout or a new cleanse, only to do it for a little while and then quit.

But here’s the thing is…each time we quit something it’s because we haven’t found what works for us, as unique individuals. We aren’t supposed to fit a mold. And the constant starting and stopping only makes us feel worse about ourselves. It makes us feel like a failure. And wow oh wow, can I recall those days so vividly.

The biggest mistake I made in my health is not trusting that I was entirely capable of getting & staying healthy. And I’d venture to say that since you’re still reading this, it’s a mistake you’re making as well.

I can tell you what to eat until I’m blue in the face, but the honest truth is, if you don’t believe you can stick with it or that you’re worth is greater than the number on the scale or the jean size you’re in, then no amount of information will change your mind.

Imagine waking up each morning fully rested as you head to the kitchen and confidently reach for foods that make you feel great without even thinking about it.

Once you realize you’re absolutely capable of feeling the way you want, you can start to take small steps to bring those feelings into your current reality so this dreamy scenario is your real life.

Health is about so much more than what we eat, but more on that another time.
