The approach that wins every time

Written by Lindsey Kaszuba

I just recorded a podcast episode with Christie Rocha on her Sass Says Podcast and she made a comment that I think we can all relate to. You can listen to the full episode here.

We chatted about health and habits and she mentioned that while she can easily make changes in other parts of her life, she finds it quite difficult to make sustainable changes when it comes to her health.

There is the guilt associated with taking time for herself, the anxiety of change, the hesitancy to follow through, and the shame and guilt associated with failing to do so. She’s not alone in this- we all experience these feelings when it comes to change. Change can be really challenging.

So where do you begin when there are so many things we wish we were doing but aren't?

I encouraged her to start with one small thing that is most important to her.

It’s a one-step-in-front-of-the-other approach.

Prioritizing one small thing that is most important can help you move closer to your goals because you are taking action in the most bite-sized and sustainable way.

What we focus on grows, so focusing on what you can do is much more helpful than focusing on what you shouldn’t do. The comment below from a Health Club Collective member ended up in my dm’s recently and is the perfect example of this approach (and one I teach in the course) 👏🏼

“I’ve eaten more vegetables in the past week with the ‘add more not take away’ mentality. Thank you.”

It really says it all. This approach is powerful. It’s changed my life and it’s changed so many of my clients and member’s lives. It’s pretty incredible, really.

So today, focus on what you can add in not on what to take away. And see how your focus changes.

Our daily habits compound to become our lifestyle, which ultimately becomes our future. Are you ready to make them work in your favor so you can feel great today and every day?
