Want to feel better? Start tuning in
Written by Lindsey Kaszuba
Figuring out what good health looks and feels like can be overwhelming. We’re constantly bombarded by all the diet trends, fad workouts, and to-do lists that we think we have to do to reach ideal health.
Are you tired of eating healthy and working out but not seeing or feeling much of a difference?
Maybe you’re tired of convincing yourself that you’ll get to the gym and start eating healthier only to feel horrible about yourself when you don’t.
Or you may just be tired of promising yourself you’ll get back to being healthy on Monday; telling yourself that this time you’re serious (again).
If this sounds like you, simply start tuning in to your needs. Sounds simple, I know. And honestly, once you get the hang of it that’s exactly what it is!
How many times have you mindlessly eaten a bag of chips or realized you haven’t gotten up from your computer in 4 hours?
Tuning in and creating awareness is always the first step and it entails: pausing, getting quiet with yourself, and asking yourself major questions. I know this can be scary, but stick with me!
Let’s do a simple exercise.
Find a quiet space and take three deep inhales and exhales, focusing on your breath. Then ask yourself the questions below. It’s a great idea to write down your answers in a notebook since putting pen to paper really helps clear the mind and can give you the answers you’ve been looking for.
What is my number one health goal right now?
Really think about your goals and the why behind them. What do you really want?
How do I want to feel?
Do you know how the things that you do every day, the choices that you make; do you know how those make you feel? Do you know how the foods that you eat make you feel? Do you know how the movement you're doing makes you feel? Do you know how the lack of movement you're doing is making you feel? Get really honest with yourself without judgment!
What are the fears that come up and why don’t you have this yet?
Our fears can lead us to go down the route that we actually don't really want to go down. Just because it's familiar to us and we're used to it. Challenge those thoughts when they come up, and they will come up. Fear gets us stuck in these habits that don't really make us feel great, so be really honest with yourself.
This is the start of tuning in to your body’s true needs versus what you think you want.
Change is never easy to do all alone. It can require accountability, community, a non-judgemental space, and real effort.
I’m here for you if you need support. You deserve it!
